Welcome to Angelique’s French Jive Dance

You are warmly invited to join us for a fun, relaxing beginner class followed by general dancing and practice time.
The mood is retro and mellow, we will be playing artists like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nina Simone, Nat King Cole, Peggy Lee, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Bobby Darin, some contemporaries like Diana Krall, Michael Bublé and French Toast, with a dash of jazz and other tunes in a similar vein.

French Jive came about when the American G.I.’s introduced Paris to the jitterbug during the second world war. From there it evolved into a French hybrid, still danced in France today, also known as c’est le rock, le rock and many other names in other countries.

French Jive feels a bit like an easy, updated version of rock ‘n’ roll, just not as fast. The music we dance to is not so break-neck (like Rock around the clock), so people of all ages find it accessible and easy to learn basic steps. You will soon find yourself able to remember simple routines to teach your friends and family.

French Jive is an informal street dance style with no need for correct posture, correct foot work, special shoes or clothing. None of that. Dress code is smart casual, just wear clothing that’s not too restrictive or tight with shoes you can spin in.
You are welcome to come along any time as each class is an introduction. Come along on your own, bring a friend or partner. We are child friendly should you want to bring family members along to participate or watch.

Class / Tea Dance times

3pm – 4pm Beginner French Jive class. Please arrive early.
4pm – 6pm Tea Dance, general dancing and practice time.

Door Charge – $15 per person, spectators $5.
Sorry no eftpos at this stage.
Tea, coffee and biscuits (and door prizes) included. Bring a plate and get two raffle tickets instead of one.

Private lessons:

I can teach you either at your home or mine, $30 per half hour. Private groups, events and wedding dance lessons can also be catered for.
